About Us

In 2018, SociGO was established as a non-profit company to uplift and empower the Deaf community through events, workshops, and festivals that share their culture and language.

Mission

Current international research indicates that events, workshops, and presentations to enhance and empower various life skills significantly improve Deaf children, youth and adults’ success in personal lives.

Therefore, our mission is to increase awareness of Deaf culture, identity and sign language through performing arts, music, sport, and visual arts for all people of all ages in South Africa.

Our Aim

We also aim to enhance awareness and knowledge among those in the Deaf community through educational programmes and workshops necessary to prepare and empower the Deaf community for leadership in their communities and success in their personal lives.

Our activities include but are not limited to:

  • Workshops to improve and build leadership skills.
  • Workshops about Art and Culture.
  • Workshops about various issues to empower the Deaf community.
  • Events throughout the year such as Aerobics, Donate Matric Dance Attire, Women’s Camp, SociCoffee, and Cheese and Wine.
  • Festivals

Our Vision

We envisage that the Deaf community and those with differing abilities in South Africa will have full access to all community activities regardless of race, creed, gender or abilities.

  • We coordinate festivals featuring international and local Deaf and Hearing artists to showcase their talent. These festivals will include literacy, arts, drama, culture, and food.

  • We aim to empower Deaf adults to assist in the coordination of various projects and events to enhance their skills and leadership abilities.

  • We enlist the skills of Deaf adults to support these festivals e.g. caterers, photographers, and mentors.

  • We facilitate training and workshops where we share knowledge of important topics i.e. HIV/Aids awareness, work skills, women’s body and so on.

  • We facilitate children camps for Deaf children where we run interactive workshops for Deaf school children to learn new creative skills such as dance, poetry, magic, drama, and filmmaking.

  • We encourage Deaf children to involve their families and friends to support their events and performances.

Empowerment

We support lifelong learning through various activities by striving to:

  • Break down barriers to learning and understanding, through cross-cultural events to ensure a society of inclusivity for ALL.

  • Improve the quality of life through self-awareness and understanding of different cultures, to ensure successful interaction of all people to enable the Deaf community to live, work and thrive in their communities.

  • Empower people to realise their dreams and give them hope and the inspiration to do so.

  • To motivate and to advocate for the Deaf community and those with other disabilities to have equal opportunities to participate and enjoy equal participation.

SociGO is an empowering team. We aim to empower people to have the perfect opportunity to showcase their skills in planning any event.

SociGO would like to provide an opportunity for every volunteer to be part of the various projects that we have. These can take place in different provinces, and they will get recognition for their skills, whether it be planning, hosting, finding artists and performers, etc. and anything else they can to make our events successful.

Once this project is complete, a new team is formed so other people can be part of the team, so we can share skills between all the people who are part of this project. If you are interested, please send us an email and state what your skills are and how you think you can help SociGO. Every volunteer will be given an opportunity to go for leadership training, so that they can have the chance to take the lead on a specific responsibility.
